The 2025 Civic hatchback is nothing like my little two-door 1993 Civic Si. Yet, when I am in the new Civic, I can still feel that same vibe.
However, Honda has earned a solid reputation for quality. We looked over the Civic’s scores on prior years of the Consumer Reports reliability rankings and would suggest that any model after and including 2017 is a good bet.
Good performance, efficient fuel economy, and plenty of interior space make the Honda Civic a fine choice. Most versions come with a sprightly 1.7-liter four-cylinder; the uplevel EX trim makes a bit more power and returns 29 mpg overall. Hybrid versions get 36 mpg overall, but they're slower than the regular Civic and have suffered hybrid battery failures.

A hybrid version gets a combined 37 mpg, but it sacrifices some weblink trunk space and hybrid battery failures have been an issue. (We'd pick a Toyota Prius instead.) Steering is well-weighted and quick. Road noise remains noticeable. Inside is a roomy rear seat for a small car, with enough room for adults. The unique two-tier dashboard isn't to everyone's liking.
Integrated into the top of the Honda Civic lineup, the Civic Hybrid is offered in two trim levels Triunfador sedan and hatchback body styles. The Civic Sport Hybrid comes standard with black foráneo trim, 18-inch black wheels, a moonroof, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control.
All Civics offer great value. However, if we were shopping, we’d lean toward the hatchback body for its better cargo volume and the hybrid powertrain for its better performance, driving satisfaction, and cost of ownership.

It’s made even better by the choice of adding AWD. Every Camry has a spare tire. So, if you want what the Civic can offer but also want AWD and a spare, cross shop the Camry.
It can't shut off the engine and drive solely on electric power, like the Toyota Prius does. Instruments are arranged into two tiers, with a high-mounted digital speedometer. The rear seat is roomy, but it doesn't fold because of the location of the battery. Crash-test results are impressive.
